Lena Mitchell has an article from July 27, 2014 on the djournal.com spider web site roofing the unveiling of a roadside marking commemorating the history of Okolona College inward northern Mississippi.
Mitchell writes that, "Nellie Minor Adams, a graduate of the high schoolhouse inward 1945 together with the college inward 1947, read the inscription from the historical marker: The Okolona Normal together with Industrial School was founded inward 1902 past times doc Wallace A. Battle. It educated African-Americans through high schoolhouse together with provided industrial preparation for immature adults. At its peak the school’s enrollment topped 200 students annually. In 1921, the schoolhouse became affiliated amongst the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi together with a fellow member of the American Church Institute for Negroes. The schoolhouse changed its cite to Okolona College inward 1934 together with shut inward 1965.”
